MCCOY & MCCOY SECURES $2.3 MILLION SETTLEMENT FOR INJURED CONSTRUCTION WORKER
Justice for a Construction Worker Injured in a Preventable Workplace Accident
At McCoy & McCoy, we are committed to standing by injured victims when their lives are suddenly and unfairly disrupted. Whether it’s a pedestrian accident, a dog bite, or a serious on-the-job incident, our injury lawyers fight tirelessly to hold negligent parties accountable.
One of our recent cases is a powerful example of how persistence, preparation, and belief in our client’s story can lead to meaningful justice – even when the odds seem stacked against them. As experienced construction site injury lawyers, our team knows firsthand how devastating workplace and construction-related injuries can be, and we approach every case with the same dedication to achieving life-changing results for our clients.
The Incident
Our client was working on a construction site, performing his job atop a 10-foot ladder, when the unthinkable happened. A high-voltage electric shock from an improperly grounded lighting system struck him, sending him crashing to the concrete below. This was no minor fall – and the aftermath would prove to be life-changing.
The Injuries
As a result of the shock and fall, our client sustained a series of serious injuries, including:
- A torn rotator cuff that required surgical repair
- A lower back injury requiring multiple spinal injections
- Two spinal fusions in his neck
The physical toll was severe. But perhaps equally challenging was the battle for acknowledgment and accountability.
The Legal Challenge
The defense contested the extent of our client’s injuries – particularly the neck injury. Because symptoms in that area appeared later in his treatment journey, they argued the injury wasn’t connected to the incident. What they failed to consider was how the immediate, overwhelming pain in other areas of the spine delayed the discovery and diagnosis of the neck condition.
This wasn’t a case with clear-cut timelines or straightforward outcomes. It was complex, medically nuanced, and highly contested. Both sides retained multiple expert witnesses and were preparing to head to trial.
The Result
Despite the insurer’s initial offer of just $300,000, Attorney Brian Parrott and the McCoy & McCoy team refused to back down. We thoroughly prepared for trial, understanding the emotional and financial cost our client had already endured – and how much was at stake.
Just before jury selection began, the parties reached a resolution. Attorney Parrott secured a $2.3 million settlement for our client.
What This Case Represents
This case is about more than numbers. It’s about a hardworking person whose life was upended by someone else’s negligence — and the long road to healing. It’s about standing firm when the other side casts doubt. And it’s about ensuring that no injury victim has to face powerful insurers or corporations alone.
